Privacy Policy

Effective date: November 1, 2026

This policy describes what information is handled when you read solomonsdiving.com, why, and what you can do about it. The operator is the person running this blog, and we means the operator.

Visit logs

Whenever someone opens a page about a reef, a snorkel mask or an island ferry route, the hosting server writes a short log line. An entry may hold your IP address, the time of the request, the page you opened, your browser and device type, and the referring page. We use these records to keep the site online, to find faults and abuse, and to see broadly which dive and travel articles get read. Our reason for this is a legitimate interest in keeping a small dive blog stable and free of misuse.

Cookies and similar technology

Solomonsdiving may rely on a few small browser files that let pages show correctly on your screen. Nothing here tracks readers for analytics, advertising or affiliate purposes, and if the site ever adds them, this policy will be updated before they start.

Browser controls and opt-out signals

You can clear or block cookies in your browser, browse privately or use tools that restrict tracking. If your browser sends a do-not-track or global privacy signal, we will honour it as an opt-out wherever our setup lets us. Some features of the pages may behave differently if storage is blocked.

Email you send us

When you write to [email protected], we receive your address and anything you put in the message, such as a note about a reef species or a travel detail. We use it to answer you and to correct articles, because you asked us to act on it. We do not sell messages and will not publish yours without asking you.

Newsletters and forms

If a newsletter or sign-up form is ever offered, the details you enter will be used only to deliver what you asked for, on the basis of your consent. Each mailing would explain how to unsubscribe, and you may also ask by email.

Outside services

A website relies on outside providers. These include hosting and delivery services that receive technical data about each visit so pages can load. If the site later embeds maps, videos of marine life or, if the site ever adds them, analytics, ads or affiliate networks, those providers would handle data under their own notices, and this page would be updated first.

How long data is kept

Logs are held for a limited period and then deleted or reduced to anonymous counts. Emails are kept while they help us answer you, fix an article or meet a legal duty, and are then deleted.

Asking about your information

Depending on where you live, you may ask what personal information we hold, request correction or deletion, object to certain uses, or ask for a copy. To make a request, email [email protected] and say what you would like. Because a request could be made by someone pretending to be you, we may ask for a small proof of identity, and we will answer within the time your local law requires.

Withdrawing consent

Where we rely on your consent, you can take it back at any time. The Cookie Policy page linked in the footer explains how to change your choices, and you can also tell us by email.

Complaining to a regulator

If you feel your details were mishandled by this dive blog, you may take the matter to your local data protection authority when you are in the EU, EEA or UK, or to the OAIC when you are in Australia. You are free to do so whether or not you have contacted us first.

Children

Solomonsdiving is a site for adults planning dives and island trips, and it is not meant for under-13s. We do not set out to gather anything about young snorkelers who visit solomonsdiving.com. If a child has sent a message, a parent may email us asking for it to be deleted, and we will remove it.

Security

The site is served over encrypted connections, and only the operator opens the mailbox behind the contact address. No online storage or transfer is perfectly safe, so we cannot guarantee absolute protection.

International transfers

Our hosting and delivery providers may process data in countries other than your own, where rules can differ. By reading the site from overseas, as many island travellers do, you accept that your technical data may travel this way.

Changes to this policy

This policy will be rewritten whenever our practices change, for example if a newsletter or embedded video is added. The effective date above shows when this version began, and continued use of the site after an update means you accept it.

Withdrawing consent and complaints

Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time; this does not affect anything done before. See the Cookie Policy page for the cookies in use and how to manage them. If you live in the EU, EEA or UK you can complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office); in Australia, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
